File Specifications

SightLine accepts files in many formats. We will update this page soon to be a bit more comprehensive about what file types we accept and other tips to insure the best possible output of your graphics and artwork.

Some file formats we can accept are
.psd - Native Adobe Photoshop files up to version CS6.
.ai - Native Adobe Illustrator files up to version CS6.
.indd - Native Adobe In Design files up to version CS6.
.jpg - Jpeg images - while generally not ideal, depending on the resolution, compression, and image are often just fine.
.tif - Tiff images - generally high quality images for print.
.eps - Encapsulated Post Script files.
.ps - Post Script files.
.pdf - Portable Document Format files (Adobe Acrobat)
.pub - Microsoft Publisher files.

Always convert all type to outlines (or curves) to prevent issues with missing fonts. If specific PMS colors are designated for your logo or design make sure to let us know the PMS (Pantone) Color numbers, preferrably the Pantone Coated color.

Also important is your working color space, RGB or CMYK. In the past CMYK was king and was what every specified. Nowadays the only time we want CMYK is for offset printing (like for business cards). The problem with CMYK is that it has a very very limited range (gamut) of color when compared to RGB. RGB offers a wider range of colors, and makes for a smaller file size as well. If you are designing in RGB and you have an option to set a color profile to be used please choose Adobe RGB 1998. This will maximize the range of color and is very close to the color range of our printers. We do all of our design work in RGB and the RIP (a very expensive and fancy print driver to simplify it) we use actually used the Adobe PDF Print Engine.
